2048

How to play 2048 with UNDO:
Use the arrow or WASD keys on the keyboard of your computer or swipe in all four directions within the field on your smartphone. The occupied cells will be rushed to the empty cells in the particular direction. If two cells with the same value touch during the process, they will be merged into a single cell and their value will be summed.

The goal of the game is to reach a state where the value of one of the cells is 2048. The game is mobile friendly. You can play it on your computer and in the browser of your smartphone.

It includes an almost unlimited UNDO, so that you can win more often. The game saves its state in the browser, so even if you close the browser and reopen it later on the same computer, you will be returned exactly where you left off.

The Undo steps are kept in the local storage of the browser and it has its limits. The game allows you to play well past reaching 2048. If you reach a few tens of thousands of moves, the local storage quota gets filled up and the game stalls. That is why the undo history is capped at 1000 entries. This should be enough to get you out of trouble without risking a stall.

Board size

Drag the board size slider on the main page to play on anything from a tight 3×3 to a sprawling 8×8 grid. Changing the size starts a new game.

Night mode

The button in the top-right corner switches between the light and dark colour schemes.

Tips that make winning much easier

  1. Keep the cell with the highest value in one of the corners. Personally, I prefer the bottom-right corner. In order to achieve this...
  2. ... mostly use the RIGHT and DOWN arrows.
  3. Try to use the UP arrow only when the right column is full. Otherwise, you risk the field with the highest value escaping the bottom-right corner.
  4. Avoid the LEFT arrow. Do not use it unless there is no other move left.
  5. Try to keep the right vertical column full.
